During World War II, a squadron of 8 US warplanes were dispatched to support the Allied fight against the Nazis. As they hopped between secret air bases in the north Atlantic, they were caught in a sudden snowstorm, and crash-landed onto the frozen ground of Greenland. For decades, these aircraft, known as ‘the Lost Squadron’, have been trapped beneath thick ice, their whereabouts unknown. Earlier this year, the non-profit Arctic Hot Point Solutions- AHPS used DJI drones and ground-penetrating radar to find one of the crashed planes, with the goal of excavating and bringing it back home.
