OIS is a hardware solution that’s designed to minimize the chance of blur (the arch-enemy of every photographer) and shakiness when capturing a photo or video. This typically results in content with greater levels of detail, especially in tricky shooting scenarios like low light, where a longe...r exposure time is required. Every camera sensor that has OIS has tiny motors attached to it that move the sensor to compensate for any unexpected movements when taking a photo or video. Say you’re bearing freezing temperatures to get a breathtaking shot (or if you’re just a particularly nervous photographer), tiny gyroscopes will measure the movement caused by your shaking hands and move the sensor in the opposite direction on both the x-axis and y-axis to ensure it stays steady.
